Why is it that the moment anything remotely related to justice happens regarding the myriad crimes of Eric’s dad that the words “civil war” trend on Twitter? It’s because the Gravy Seals in their tacticool imagine they’re gonna overthrow the most powerful military in the world and install Scooby Coup as president for life.
The recent events in Colorado are another example of the wheels of justice slowly turning, but no matter what happens to the Manchurian Cantaloupe, there will not be a mass uprising of Meal Team 6. More individual domestic terrorism? Sure. That’s always been an issue in a nation where they sell high-capacity shooty boom toys like they’re Snickers bars.
If you’re interested to learn of a real civil war, a terrible humanitarian tragedy you likely had no idea was taking place right now, keep reading.
Sudan is located immediately south of Egypt, in Northeast Africa. It has a long coastline along the Red Sea, directly across from Saudi Arabia. Geographically, it is larger than Egypt, but with a smaller population. Close to 50 million people live in Sudan, and many of them suffer because of asshole military leaders who just can’t fucking get along.
But the world does not give a fuck.
The First Sudanese Civil War took place from 1955 to 1972. It was a direct result of European colonial fuckery, and then more fuckery involving decolonization. The British favored the North during the decolonization process and those in the South said well this is bullshit and a guerrilla insurgency transformed into a massive civil war in which close to a million people died, about 80% of them civilians. It did, however, lead to regional autonomy for the South. At least for a little while.
But few outside Sudan gave a fuck. Continues below …

The stalemate and cessation of hostilities between North and South would prove temporary. Incursions from the North in a fight over resources such as oil, as well as Muslims in the North trying to impose Sharia law on non-Muslims in the South, eventually led to the Second Sudanese Civil War from 1985 to 2003. This time, about two million people died, again most of them civilian. There was also rampant use of child soldiers and sexual slavery. Which is rape. Sexual slavery is rape.
Again, few outside the region gave a fuck. Most in the west didn’t even know it was happening. Except for the U.S. arms dealers. Before and during the early years of the war America sent a lot of weapons to Sudan to aid in the slaughter.
Six years after the war ended the South was granted full independence. So, problem solved, right? Eh, not exactly.
In April of 2023 a civil war erupted in Sudan between rival factions of the country’s military government. Over 10,000 have been killed, but the true crisis is one of refugees. Over 5 million people have been internally displaced, and another 1.5 million have fled the country due to the fighting.
Think about that. Roughly 13% of the country forced to flee their homes. These aren’t people who can load up the minivan with groceries and check into a hotel or order Skip the Dishes. This is a major humanitarian crisis. The dying from starvation and disease has only just begun.
But no one gives a fuck, because there are few pasty people involved. It’s Black people killing Black people, and other Black civilians caught in the crossfire and losing everything in the process. It’s in Africa, and the west is really good at ignoring what happens on that continent so long as mayosapiens aren’t part of the oppression, such as in apartheid South Africa, or when mostly white musicians held a massive concert to raise money for food aid but instead a lot of that money went to support a brutal dictator. Never mind that European colonization of Africa murdered millions then left behind a divisive and antagonistic situation that they purposely created via their divide and conquer strategies, leading to the deaths of millions more in the aftermath of independence.
We should all give a fuck, but most of us don’t. When “civil war” trends on Twitter, it’s always about the Trumpanzees rallying behind their Jaundiced Jesus. “Sudan” doesn’t trend in the west.
Because no one here gives a fuck.
