Closing the twitter account would supposedly also delete all your content. At worst I'd abandon it (or just login periodically to keep it alive in case), so that all those wonderful rants, thoughts, and sweary missives remain preserved for posterity. Maybe they'll even show up in some MAGA's search results.

Understood. It's a little different for Joe Schmoe, who is basically me, who gets nothing from Twitter ever except the occasional aggravation headache, to walk away forever, than it is for someone like yourself who actually benefits from it financially. I think that's a distinction that's not lost on the majority of people.

For the moment, I'm leaving my Twitter account alone until I see where this shitshow goes. My line in the sand is if Darth Cheeto comes back on.

I don't make two-fifths of sweet fuck all on Twitter so deactivating my account was easy. I even just created my first ever TikTok video (because apparently if you're a writer selling books and you're not doing BookTok videos you're being left in the dust). Time will tell if deactivating my Twitter made any difference and if trying to latch my horse to the TikTok wagon was a good idea. I've heard mixed reviews about TikTok, so we'll see. Also, buy my book. https://potatochipmath.com/books/

Tfg likely has the same plan as you. Post enough to drive traffic to his "tr00f" site in direct competition with Musk. Maggie Haberman and many others are already doing this, but when the profit speaks, it's powerful. Pun intended.

Thank you for writing this. I don't use Twitter, but I appreciate your explanation.
