The power of the BOO should not be underestimated.

I think we should hire a bunch of professional booers to infiltrate the Republican rallies and events. One leader can give a signal and all boo at once. Perhaps some anti- Trump

Vets would be up to the task. Get a couple hundred into each audience. I wonder how long it would take them to catch on?

BOOOO!!!

I watched the film of that Romanian revolution years ago. It was amazing that it had been filmed.

I’m enjoying the slow motion descent of the Trump cult even more and am looking forward to him being hung around the neck of the Republican Party.

His totally onbrand desecration of Arlington I think is going to peel another layer or two of his support away. I know there are some of cultists that are cool with it, but it’s gotta turn some. The episode seems like it has legs, too.

Now it comes out that Mike Johnson was involved in facilitating the debacle. And this was all to get a campaign ad to use against Joe Biden. Genius!

Expat US citizens can vote in US federal elections. If you've missed this message somehow and haven't yet done this, you can get help registering and voting by contacting Democrats Abroad.

Thanks for writing what so many of us are thinking here in the US. Finally this battle for our nation’s future is being framed for what it is: the continuation of our democratic republic versus the establishment of our own cheap dictatorship. The choice is clear, and I believe the results will be as well.

Agreed, the polls are showing well for Harris/Walz, but we know the polls aren't everything. We need to keep working for this.

There's an old gentleman who's been sitting on the main intersection of the small town I work in and he puts up a very large sign that says "Make America Trumpless Again" He's done it every day for a week. I think the local cops told him it couldn't be a permanent sign on the utility pole, so he made a stake for it and he puts it up and down every afternoon during rush hour. I stopped today to thank him for the sign. He thanked me for my vote. I gave a pin of the "Make America Joyful Again" kitten pin. He took it happily. He was quite a bit older than I had though, his hands shook and he could not read the pin, so I read it for him. Like Carter, he's hanging on until November 5th as hard as he can and hoping others will join him.

We've got to stay on guard even when it looks good. We need to keep booing those who deserve it and thanking those who are still working to make America Joyful and Trumpless again.

Thanks James, for your brilliant and entertaining posts, and especially today for your hopeful words about our democratic future. Our asshattery down south here must make you kindly and rationally minded-Canadians sigh with frustration and disbelief. I hope your optimism holds true and we change the course in November.

Ceaușescu would be proud of the leftist propaganda you spew. Imagine regurgitating corporate media, academia, and intelligence agencies, while thinking you’re part of “The Resistance”. Democrat single party rule would bring such joy, just look at the utopia of California!

How so? Michigan and California are both losing population. Detroit and San Francisco are two of the most blighted cities in America, both run by democrats for a century.

Your information is out of date, my friend. Detroit is staging a comeback that is remarkable, ever since we got the nasty right wingers and their racism and misogyny out of the decisionmaking process. Heard of the flint water crisis? Republicans did that.

Governor Whitmer makes policy and decisions that are good for everyone in Michigan, except for the radical right dumpster-fire faction - the people who keep complaining that her pandemic policies made them lose money, but loosing the court cases they file to try to get more than their fair share, without acknowledging that her pandemic policies resulted in them still being alive today to complain about those policies. The people, including members of the State Legislature, who called her, Secretary of State Benson, and Attorney General Nessel “The Three Witches”. Governor Whitmer who repeatedly said, “ I am willing to work with everyone and anyone for the good of Michiganders when that Republican led legislature kept killing popular bills just to spite her- people got onto their tricks and voted those guys out of office. Detroit is fixing its problems and helping its people. Don’t speak ill of what you obviously know nothing about.

This is a laughable comment about the D, the D is fabulous...now with Mayor Dugans foresight and work and Michigan wouldn't have "lost population" had the dictator not insisted the census be stopped before the end date and before it was finished ffs.

There was nothing left about Ceausescu - he was a straight-up dictator. True communism requires a democracy. One is an economic system, the other a political system. Without democracy, it's just a right wing dictatorship.

The power of hope is not to be discounted, and we suddenly, finally, actually, amazingly, astonishingly. have a whole lot of good reasons to hope, but while hope surely helps us keep going, hope ain't a strategy.

If the Disciples of Delusion start to boo the Orange Personage, and not just his surrogates, then we'll have reached a real tipping point. So far the fading rally attendance is wonderful. It does seem to show that regular people are finally realizing he's a nasty loser and they ought to be embarrassed to be seen cheering him. And the remarkable down-bounce that Vance brought to the ticket came with some (still not enough, but better than the zero it was) actual media reality checks on the extreme GQP BS, which is another good sign. Also Turnip has been hiding, or being kept out of public view by his handlers, everywhere except in his all caps toilet tweets, highlighting his unfitness for anyone still capable of entertaining a qualm. All of these are good signs. However, it was Union Firefighters who booed Couchman. That's not nothing, but it's also not the Base.

I hope (with all my heart!) you are right and these are the first pebbles of the avalanche that ushers sanity back in, but until those chickens are hatched AND home to roost, let's not take chances. After nearly 8 years of unrelenting existential dread for myself, my family, and my Country, I don't dare to think positively yet. No slacking off until after President Harris is elected in that landslide and safely inaugurated without electoral, SCOTUS, or physical interference. Then I'll exhale and just breathe for a month or so, before I get going on working to fix the loonies mis-elected to local and state offices that weren't up in this election, the Electoral College (Ranked Choice!), term limits and ethics for SCOTUS, and so much that still needs to get done right!

It's going to take a string of losses over a number of years to rid the GOP of the crazy. So for the next decade at least, treat each election like a life or death struggle. The crazy is stuck in like ticks and we don't have tweezers to get them out quickly, it is going to be more of a game of attrition. Like getting rid of heartworms in an old dog. It's going to take time, patience and all of us staying the course even when we want more to happen quicker. Patience and steadfastness will win the day.

A bullet-riddled death is too easy on trump - he should languish in a prison cell for years, with a demanding boyfriend/cellmate who grabs genitals and won't take no for an answer.

I don't know many things, but I know this: when trump's ghost escapes and he has expired (well past his due-date, btw) he WILL NOT be buried in Arlington National Cemetary.
