Best of luck on your surgery. I hope recovery is swift and complete.
Also, I love the axe story. It's a wonderful feeling to be understood.
My grandfather worked with wood in his spare time. As the oldest grandchild, I got to spend a lot of time with him making wooden spoons and trays. The smell of wood still brings me back.
I love this story. I can confirm your dad's theory on babies as I emerged full term a mere 5 months after my parents' nuptials in 1966 when my dad was also 21 lol.
Your story took me back to British Columbia as well. I was there only for a month, the summer I was six years old. As soon as you mentioned rainbow trout, I was back there. That's where I caught the only rainbow trout I ever caught. My father, one for numbers, measured it. It was 13" long. To my tiny 6-year-old self, that seemed like one big-ass fish! 🤣. Thanks for invoking that memory for me. I was rarely happy as a kid, but I had a lot of good times that summer.
Wishing you well! Also, I admit I cried just a little about that carving. My dad is also a woodworker and does beautiful work. He has many lovely pieces in his shop, and I have several in my home, as does my brother. I know that long after my father has left this world, I will be able to look at those pieces and remember the love he put into them.
I love that little woodcarving, it reminds me of the Collingwood Doll I ‘inherited’ from Mum. It always sat in the cabinet for special items (and we never had much). I had no idea what it was worth, still don’t. Just that it was special and it was Mum’s. It was also there all my life. Mum gave it to me when she moved into town from the farm. It might have been a good idea to avoid fighting 🤣
Fingers crossed that all goes well! May the Axe be with you:-)

What a beautiful story!
I've had 5 surgeries since 2013. The last one made me change my ways. Hope you have a fast recovery.

Cherish those feelings, and believe all will be well.
Good luck, James, and take care of you. We'll be here to keep you amused when you get back. It's the least we can do.
Good luck with the surgery. Heal well and quickly.

Also, good luck with the op! Talk to you on this other side! 😎
