You know, I'm a Christian. I'm also bisexual, and pro-choice, and I believe with all my soul that Black lives matter. I also believe that the Jesus I know believes that too. And he would fit right in at a Pride festival. In fact, He would probably be the one running the thing. I despise people who claim to be Christian, and then condemn others. It's not their place. It's my job to police MY OWN life, no one else's. I am supposed to love my fellow humans. Period. And I definitely do my best. I have to say, though, people like her.....they make it really, really hard.
Jesus helped many people who were considered "undesirable". Yet modern-day "Christians" preach that he wouldn't...?! Yeah, no - they're not "Christians".
That's pretty much what I say about most people who call themselves Christians today. They are definitely not following the Jesus I was brought up knowing.
Bizarre damned behaviour to actively seek out something you don't like/approve of. Additionally, if their God also disapproves, how do they plan on explaining their frequent and lengthy visits to these events? At some point they just become voyeurs with a strange kink for hatred.
This is the first thing I read this morning, and it set a wonderful mood for me for the day. Iβll read it several times and Iβve already shared it and thank you for those words because itβs hard for me to step up and say things and this reminded me of the words, all it takes is good people to do nothing.
Something of note: This is probably petulant, but as a professional driver of 18-wheelers (AZ Driver in Canada, I think), said redbecks in your post do not have big trucks. They have steroid-inspired light pick-up trucks or SUV's to show how macho they are. Think Tim Allen on the old TV show "Home Improvement".
As an ally that goes to Prides just to give hugs, I approve of this message. I always offer a hug to the Jesus freaks, but they back away from me like I have leprosy. Now I know why!
Thank you! For stepping up and saying something, for writing about it, and for your wonderful books (both of which I own, and I have pre-ordered the new book that comes out this fall.)
Fantastic! Great job James β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈππΌππΌππΌ. Christian bigots must be called out for their hateful beliefs. Iβm a secular humanist but know that they consistently ignore their own religionβs main tenet of βlove one anotherβ
If youβve got kiddos with you check out Davidsonβs Orchard. Amazing spot. Best produce. And if you or your wife need to be extra pampered, check out Sparkling Hill. And Lake Kal is better than the Okanagan.
She thought she'd found a Sodom and/or Gamorrah and she was gonna do the Lord's work. Funny how some folk's feel like the Lord needs their help. Oh well, assholes are gonna asshole. You handled it well, sir.
You are the fucking best! As an old-as-dirt queer, I am just plain bone-weary of people like that church lady. In the 40+ years since I attended my first Pride event, I don't think I've ever been to a single one where I wasn't approached on the way in or out by some frantic zealot determined to save my soul. What is so refreshingly unusual is to have a non-queer person run interference, so that the queer targets don't have to do the heavy lifting. Thank you for that! β€οΈπ§‘πππππ€π€π©Άπ€π©·

I get so tired of people spewing their faux Christianity to hide their bigotry. Thank you for standing up to this heartless creature.

I stand corrected.
This is amazeballs! (Is that still a thing?)

You not only did a courageous thing. You wrote guidelines for the rest of us on how to handle an all too common situation.

So few people stand up, so thank you for speaking up and taking charge

And good on you. You have no idea the courage itβs taken to have a pride event in Vernon. Iβm very proud of them. (in-laws home town)

Nicely done. And as someone else commented on here...it gives the rest of us a response should we see similar.
PS. Love your tee!
Thank you for you and your family's support! You are a wonderful ally!
You could have detained her until the cops got there.... Thank you for standing up to her!
