Why were so many of us completely surprised by 9/11? Successive governments in this country have trampled all over the rights of people in other countries (Iran? Hello?) for generations, and because we're supposedly a democracy the people in those other countries can be excused for believing we deserve to reap what our leaders have sown. No, the innocent people in the Twin Towers didn't deserve to be murdered (nor did any actual innocents in the Pentagon), but seriously? Ever hear of karma?
