Linguistics is a hobby of mine and I love how weird the English language is. One of my prize possessions is the Compact OED. It's in two volumes and comes with a magnifying glass so you can read the teeny tiny print.

The "T" in "The Philosophical Society" is capitalized because it is a proper noun, the name of a group. https://philsoc.org.uk/

My great aunt was an attorney whose home office featured a bookshelf with lots of Dorothy Parker, "Archy and Mehitabel," other books from the 1910's and up full of lovely, snarky wordplay...and a HUGE dictionary, at least half as large as my toddler self, that she would bring down from a shelf and let me read while she worked. Her office was, and is, what comes to mind if I think of heaven.

A year and a half ago I purchased myself a similar desk, in honor and memory of her.

Depends if you go English or American. I can’t remember which is which and don’t want to Google right now cuz I’ve been skiing in -23C all day and am deep into a glass of whisky and need a shower.
