The École Polytechnique Massacre
On December 6, 1989, a piece of shit who shall not be named murdered fourteen women at École Polytechnique in Montreal using a semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine. Because Canada is not America, the massacre resulted in actual changes to Canadian gun laws.

In addition to the fourteen murdered women, another ten women and four men were injured. The motivation of the piece of shit was antifeminism. He hated women, blamed them for ruining his life, blah fucking blah. Women were specifically his target. It was just another example of how society doesn’t value the lives of women.
The killer, who took his own life after his rampage, has been referred to as “the first incel.” Incels have committed numerous mass murders since then. In 2020, an incel murdered a woman and seriously injured another in Toronto and was charged with terrorism.
The weapon used at École Polytechnique was a Ruger Mini-14. It’s functionally the same as the infamous AR-15, a favored tool of mass murderers in the United States, firing the same cartridge size and allowing for a 30-round magazine. In the wake of the horrific Montreal massacre, the Canadian government took quick action on gun control. One of the first steps was to limit magazine capacity for centerfire long guns to only five rounds.
In 2020, the Ruger Mini-14, along with similar type rifles, were prohibited in Canada.

Weird how sensible gun control laws work in every other country but the US...
I remember this day since I was then living in London Ontario and had a year old daughter. I fully expected Canada to clamp down on guns after that. There was also more attention given to the mental problems that led to the mass murder at ecole Polytechnique. This is how responsible nations behave after incidents like this. The result is that the number of mass shootings in Canada can be counted on less than one finger. I never felt or feel in danger when I am in a mall or a movie theater or a Walmart in Canada. I do not worry about my grand nieces or nephews going to school. But I do here, in my adopted country. And that is only since Sandy Hook. And then there is Uvalde......
