In an episode of one my favorite shows, "Vera," (based on the Vera Stanhope books) the title character has just convinced a man to confess to a revenge killing. We know enough about the victim at this point to understand and empathize with the killer.
When the killer protests and asks Vera, "Don't tell me that you've never wanted to do the same!" she says, "Yes. But I wouldn't want to live in a country that would let me."
The continued practice of capital punishment is one of the many things this country ought to feel public shame about. The government shouldn't allow itself to take vengeance either.
The death penalty is a costly, unjust, ineffective deterrent to violent crime. It offers revenge, not justice. It brutalizes the citizenry and makes the state a murderer. Two wrongs don't make a right.
While I find myself wishing for this punishment when the crime is heinous, I came to understand that it doesn't work, and in fact causes a lot of pain not only to the one sentenced to it, but also to his family, the correctional staff and even the victim's family. It's time we end it
As always there is balance in life. I too followed a similar path to yours. I was diagnosed with adhd then the psycho diagnosed the entire rest of the family (not blood) with it and french fried my step daughters brains with adderol. I quit taking Ritalin and the er version due to jitters and cope with other things. I’m also a highly functional alcoholic (after5 etc)one problem in the US if you are diagnosed with adhd or take Ritalin they can disqualify you from flying, commercial driving, and ships captain permanently. I do two of those 3 and required specific write ups to avoid persecution… thanks for all you do

Personally, I feel that a POS like that deserves to spend the rest his life in cell. I hope it’s dark in there.
Death is a release, not a punishment.
Punishment is letting him rot in hole for the rest of his days. Why should he get an “easy” out? His victims sure didn’t
Your comment makes me wonder if some of the support for execution isn't informed by a belief in eternal punishment in an afterlife of some kind.
