Thanks for writing this. I've forwarded it on to a family member of his that I know. Being in the US I'd never have heard of him if it wasn't for my Tasmanian friends (And yes, I've purchased two of your three books. :) )

Generally, VC's are not awarded individuals in the Navy, because they are seen as a ship's crew ( in a collective sense). In doing so, Ordinary Seaman Sheean became the first member of the Royal Australian Navy to be awarded Australia's highest honour for valour.

Also a lot of senior military officers missed out on awards and didn’t want an ordinary seaman to be given a VC.
