There's a Lipizzaner farm and riding school - with public performances - in Wadsworth IL, north of Chicago. Tempel Farms was started in the 1950s with stock from the Viennese school, possibly descendants of the horses saved in this raid.

I came here to say this. If it’s open, go and see a show. It’s horse ballet when they start doing the battle moves. The compact little white horses are stupid strong and precise in their moves. It can be appreciated by non horse people like non basketball people enjoying watching Jordan dunk.

When I was a horse-crazed 8-year-old, my father took me to see the Lipizzaners while they were touring. It was awesome to see them perform. I still have the souvenir necklace my dad bought me in my jewelry box somewhere.

In the book, The Perfect Horse, by Elizabeth Letts, sets out this daring rescue in intimate detail. Many Polish bred Arabians were also rescued with the Lipizzaner's. Of note, the Arabian stallion, Witez II was one of the horses saved. This bay stallion was shipped to the US and become one of the most influential sires in Arabian history. One of his get, Ronteza made history winning the 1961 World Champion Reined Cow Horse at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, defeating 50 horses.

I was taken to see the Lipizzaners in Victoria BC when I was a girl. Still remember - they were so beautiful!
