May 4, 1970, Kent State University. Fourteen-year-old Mary Ann Vecchio cries over the body of slain protestor Jeffrey Miller, shot by the Ohio National Guard. A photo of her is snapped, one that will win a Pulitzer Prize. The photo runs on the front page of newspapers across the country. The governor of her home state of Florida proclaims Vecchio part of a communist conspiracy. She is shunned by her community, receiving tens of thousands of pieces of hate mail. Despite the killing of four students and wounding of nine more by government forces, a Gallup poll taken a week later reveals sixty per cent of Americans blame the students for the massacre. Two-and-a-half years later, President Nixon wins re-election in a massive landslide, garnering 520 electoral college votes from 49 states. None of the guardsmen are ever criminally convicted for the killings.

Yesterday, 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen and mother of a six-year-old, was murdered by ICE agents. After shooting her, the ICE agents even prevented her from receiving medical care. The puppy killing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said Good had it coming because she was engaging in “an act of domestic terrorism.” Donald Trump wrote of the incident that it was self-defense, claiming Good “violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer.”

They used that same “fear for their lives” bullshit at Kent State too, and a lot of Nixon supporters bought it, saying the students had it coming, sending thousands of pieces of hate mail to Vecchio for daring to cry over one of the murder victims.

Some are saying the murder of Good is the “turning point;” this is the last straw that will finally spell the end of Trump. It is no such thing. Kent State didn’t harm Nixon. If January 6 didn’t damage Trump, neither will this.

It is likely that Trump will try to prevent the mid-terms from taking place. Even during the U.S. Civil War and the Second World War, the U.S. held elections, so he probably won’t be successful. And so, failing that, he will try to subvert them by usurping control of voting systems and using troops and law enforcement for intimidation of voters and election officials alike.

The tragic murder of Renee Good isn’t the final straw, it’s another straw. Americans cannot let up pressure on this administration. They must continue to fight, demand accountability, demand the release of the full and unredacted Epstein files, continue protesting and pressuring elected officials to stop Trump in any way possible to ensure the midterms are as free and fair as possible.

Assuming the elections are fair, it isn’t looking good for Trump, and so he and his cronies will try to steal from and damage the nation as much as possible in the interim, because they know the ride is likely coming to an end. Things aren’t going to get better after this incident,; they will continue to get worse. The candy store is still open for them and they’ll rob the shit out of while they can. The only hope is for Americans to not be complacent, keep the pressure up, and VOTE in November.
