Thanks for having the balls to take on this topic. Growing up in Northern Ireland under what we call British Occupation, I have deep empathy for the Palestinian people. But it’s impossible to justify the cruel violence of Hamas, and I have been struggling to help my kids and my less politically or historically or just internationally aware friends in the US understand the difference in the plight of the civilians and these crazies. Again, appreciate you weighing in.
Well done on this. Clear and concise enough for anyone to understand the complex history of Israel and Palestine. I don't believe it will ever be settled in our lifetime.
I am so tired of the finger pointing and the "But, they started it."
"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
We do become what we hate.
There is too much hate and suffering.
We need that parent, when their children are fighting and saying "but he started it" and the other says "No, he started it." The parent come in and says:
"I am finishing it." And ends it!
I still have hope although, there is no hook to hang that optimism.

Well, wow, my comment has not aged well—at least to me. The October 7 attack has been widely compared to 9/11, and much like the US after those attacks, Israel has done its best to squander any goodwill they may have gotten in its wake, by going on a murderous rampage like the US did in Iraq, where we killed hundreds of thousands of civilians. And we’re funding this massacre as well.
I knew by the lack of f-bombs in this piece how much it affects you. Well done, sir. I pray for peace but am old enough to know the human psyche won’t allow that. ☹️

That whole incident, on the surface, is about territory, but at its heart it's about religion. That's the real bloody shame of it.
