Not because I am boycotting but because after I use my disability budget to pay my three necessary bills each month, Rent, Hydro, Wifi/landline, I have less than $125.00 for the whole freaking month for food, clothes, toiletries. So yah, fuck you MARK! Assholes think the poor can't enjoy social media like those in the slightly less poor who can afford cellphones. James can attest that here, in Canada, we have one of the most expensive cellphone fees in the world. It sucks.
I have no idea what your social programs are like there, but in the US if you're on programs like food stamps or disability you can qualify for free cell phone. It's a crappy minimal plan but better than nothing. You're usually ahead of us on such things so I'd be surprised if you don't have something similar. Can you check with whoever manages your disability to see if they might know?
Unfortunately, we do not have anything like that in Manitoba and there is no federal program. As of now? There are many, in Manitoba, who want WiFi to be qualified as a necessity. If it were a necessity then my disability budget wouldn't be paying out over $140/month to have a service which they require us to have in order to email them documents, contact financial officers and the like. SOMETIMES, someone will offer their telephone number. Last year, our conservative government, "regionalized" our Economic and Income Assistance offices which basically means that now? The only "region" is Winnipeg and you must call in and wait in a long line to have your call responded to while you wait for up to an hour and sometimes longer. Fortunately, the conservatives were voted out but, like in the USA with the GQP, it takes longer to repair a system purposefully broken than starting a new one. So, all of these systems that the conservatives destroyed are going to take a long time to revive or replace.
It's a bind and I'm not the only one in this situation. Sigh. My doctor was an expert at dealing with the disability office of Economic and Income Assistance. He was often frustrated with what they expected us to do (for instance, if I held a garage sale, any and all money made must be reported so they could deduct it from my disability check). Sigh.
That's insane. My internet is covered too, but it was only about half that before. I pay for my cell phone but I'm on a budget plan that's under $20.
Phone waits are even worse here - depending on what department you need, anyway. It was over 2 hours for me last time. Usually much less if you to go the office in person, but after you factor in fuel and drive time...at least while I'm sitting on hold I can be doing other things.

We relied on free school lunches, free cheese and butter (back in the early 80s) and, fortunately, most of Dad's medical care was up to the VA before Reagan dismantled the government while sucking on the teat for his salary, medical, security and pension (that fucking BASTARD started the destruction of the USA and trump is one of the outcomes of Reagan). When we didn't have VA care? Well, my mother begged her sister's (the nun) convent for help to feed us. I remember having only boiled potatoes and wild rice (because my cousins in northern Minnesota harvest it and had given it to us free) for Sunday's main meal. I remember me going home at lunchtime and for WEEKS all we had was turkey neck soup because turkey necks were 10 cents a pound. It had egg noodles and potatoes in it. By the end of day one? It sat in a big ice cream pail in the fridge a gelatanous mess because all the noodles had turned into, basically, flour. We just couldn't eat it. I'd run the 3 blocks to the grocery store were I worked in 11th and 12th grade in the deli and would buy Dad a $2.49 two pieece fried Chicken Dinner with two sides and a roll. He loved those and I didn't mind spending my paycheck to feed him. My boss also let me run a tab so I could also buy other groceries we needed while my mother took secretarial training. Yup, all of that thanks to good old "lift yourself up by the bootstraps" hateful GQP.

"God bless you with peace and prosperity, and may the flatulent always be with you."

I get notices in my email from Pinterest where I rarely go anymore and have only pinned a few posts years ago. They say I have pinned or shared a post that is in violation of their policies, or pinned a post that the original poster did not want pinned. I never shared a pin. ever. The posts I have pinned (saved) were just something I was interested in. I have a few private areas where I saved public pins and I was told a few days ago those pins were considered pornographic and were taken away and I was being warned that my private groups were not really private! What? I was being warned against saving porn pins! What porn? which pins? Are the original posters getting dinged? I haven't saved a pin in over a yr. FB is just as bad. I am only checking my DMs there and my business page is not doing anything. I go there to see my memories because I can see forgotten pics of my late husband, or my grandson as a tiny baby. I try to save these pics before FB tries to take down everything. I subscribed to your emails a while ago and am glad I did. It is how I now follow most of my faves. Zuck sucks and fully automated sites suck. It is bad enough we have to maneuver business and utility sites without opportunity to talk to a human. My DIL lost her massage therapy business because Google dumped hundreds of small business accounts and there was no way to get reinstated, much less find out what happened. One day she had a lot of new clients and the next her website was down and no more online scheduling could happen. It has taken her months to finally be able to set up her business again online. There was never a way for her to talk to anyone or find out what had gone wrong. We may be relegated back to the good old days before internet and be writing letters, talking on landlines and sending out self printed newsletters!
Well the Facebook regurgitated suspension warning system hit my sister this morning for an admittedly distasteful vulgar meme she tried to post AND had a suspension for in 2020. Lest than 5 minutes later a 2023 infraction (really mild) came back as a warning:

Pages are scrutinized closer - but yes, it mostly runs on complaints. Let's Not Date was having to pull post after post after post for a while regardless of the content because she kept getting warnings, and I'm absolutely convinced she had trolls just bulk reporting everything and the bots must have some trigger for a certain number of reports even when the content doesn't have any red flags. And of course, no oversight.
But someone can post "I'M A FAKE RUSSIAN SCAMBOT HERE TO STEAL EVERYONE'S MONEY" and if they don't trigger the report threshold it's all good 🤦♀️

Hey James, just wanted to say here in Australia we have the “Small Business Ombudsman” as a government agency, it’s the only way a lot of businesses have any direct access to dispute fb’s bureaucratic BS as they have direct contacts. I’m sure Canada would have some similar options for you.
