I’m worried about us, too. but make no mistake, I have no intention of rolling over and letting that orange mythomaniac and his fascist buddies prevail. I appreciate your writing.

We're dealing with a lot of shit over here. Part of my anger has to do with the ass hats on election day that sat on their thumbs instead of voting. Pick a side you fucking dicks! I was talking to one of my employees the other day. She said that she didn't vote because she "didn't understand the issues" and that she's "still confused". She's a 45 year old woman. I am disgusted. How can you consider yourself a full functioning adult if all you do is pretend nothing's happening? To quote RUSH: "If you choose not to decide, you have still made a choice." Fuck the jerks who chose the Orange Rump Limp Dickus. But, the lazy bastards that did nothing... they are less than dog vomit.

I know too many people our age who willfully refuse to engage and have plenty of bullshit reasons for it.

Coincidentally, they're single white men. Weird.

I noticed this as well. Especially younger white men.

James is already here on Substack, and it is free unless you choose to pay. He’s one of best authors I’ve read in my many years as an editor.

an editor you say? I've been working on the great american novel for the last 15yrs and if you could just take a few minutes to read the first 11,793 pages I'd really appreciate it......haha, I just finished James first sweary history book, it was a hoot and now for the rest of my life I will know what defenestration means and a recurring vision of trump tower comes to mind when I ponder the word

From Australia, I'm worried too. Not just for the wellbeing of friends over in the US, but knowing how this fascism garbage spreads like a metastasising cancer.

There's an old political saying: "when the US sneezes, Australia catches a cold". Although the Westminster based democracies are robust enough not to descend to the bottom, we're not immune from self inflicted wounds like the UK with Brexit

I do worry for our Canadian friends. I'd take Trump seriously on what he says, he's proven time and time again that it isn't trolling and says the quiet part out loud. I wouldn't be shocked if there's enough Trumpers in the military to go along with any harebrained scheme he comes up with.

Either way, it's going to get messy as these Christo-Fascists try to enact their Gilead fantasies. It scares the hell out of me and I'm literally on the other side of the planet, but I can't even imagine what it must feel like living in there, especially being part of a targeted minority.

It may be true about people not voting, but like 2016 people used voting machines, which is NOT a good idea. Vote by mail works, but it is not national. Dumdum wants the POSTAL SERVICE for a reason. There are states that are working better than most. Washington has vote by mail and a governor we can depend on. If they can rip America apart in 3 weeks we can put it back together without it taking forever. 🗽🇺🇲🇺🇦

Yes, PLEASE, like MP May suggested!! West Coast - and perhaps also the Northern swing states (which usually swing toward blue) - and Northeast Coast down to Virginia.

If this could actually happen - even if only ‘for the duration’ - then I KNOW we could save America from self-proclaimed KKKing DelonD and their merry band of billionaires, NAZIs, Fascists, Christian Nationalists, gun nuts, grifters, bigots, and other assorted liars, cheats and thieves. Then, hopefully make amends with friends and allies we have betrayed - if they’re willing - and resume fighting for Democracy and Freedom in the world!!

Kennedy had nice speeches, meanwhile being a less-than decent person. Seems to be the common thread for the male ruling class in the US.

Thanks to the current nightmare coming true with tRump’s second attempt to become king, those of us with working thought processes wonder how to reconstruct a country. I fear it may be impossible in my lifetime. Our grandchildren will certainly hear us dialogue about human rights, human decency and the power of knowledge, courage, empathy and hard work.

Sure hope the Canadian populace doesn’t think we are all stupid and inconsiderate!

Worried sick, but resisting this madness.

We're worried too. The worst of it for me is that I cannot bring myself to muster up so much as a shred of empathy or even sympathy for the MAGAts who voted for Agent Orange who now have the BALLS to sit on their asses and post on Facebook and X whining and crying because the Dumpster is doing to them what he SAID he would do.

Sir, with all due respect, you have no fucking idea what we're going through.

Your Canadian? Swell. That means you haven't fought, and protested, and voted, and ultimately watched in horror as the democracy you took for granted as a child was destroyed before you turned fifty.

You haven't lost your bodily autonomy, or struggled in vain against the corporate interests that lobbied hard and paid well to buy and pay for political speech.

You haven't watched American Nationalism grow like kudzu, and tried passionate to get people to understand why it's dangerous for over a decade.

So yeah. We fucking know all that shit you so high-handedly told us from your nice safe computer in your nice safe country. We know, and we're watching as a fifty foot tall tsunami of hatred and greed comes for us, and our trans, and immigrant, and brown skinned friends. You don't have to wonder if you'll have healthcare in a week, or when - not if - they'll start coming for the people you love. And yes we're fighting the fuck back. Of course we are! Our other alternative is to die, to die either literally or by inches. You aren't experiencing any of this, so if you are not going to actually, materially help, back the fuck off.

Yeah, sorry for the level of aggression there, but it's been a bad decade or so. My degree is also in history, and watch this happen despite the best efforts of myself and everyone I care about has been horrific. In general, I am in favor of both swearing and history, so I wish you well.

We aren't fucking safe. Your dictator is threatening to annex us. Repeatedly. We share the longest fucking border in the world. We know your country a million times better than you know ours. We have family and friends there. We visit you way the fuck more than you visit us. We are in support of your improving because it has a MASSIVE impact on our own country. The trouble with so many Americans is they think they are the only country in the world and that shit only affects THEM. We will NOT back the fuck off. And you showed James no due respect whatsoever.

He wasn't due any for that mess of paternalistic bullshit. And yes, you folx probably WIL BE in danger, but my brother is a gay trans man. I'm a disabled, bi, pagan woman. About 1/3 of my friends are also trans. So while you will be, I am. My loved ones are looking for ways to flee the country. We're about to move 3000 miles because we can't do that, and it's the next safest thing.

And if your man had a single useful thing to say, I'd welcome it, but for as long as he's neither in the fight, nor telling us anything we don't know, he really can fuck off.
