Greetings from Madrid. Technically, the high speed train currently leaving Madrid. Anyway, what time is it?
It’s eight ours ahead of my home, but it should only be seven. And yet, it’s eight. Because fascist dickcheeses. Look at this fucking map.
Spain is directly below the UK. You’d think they’d be in the same time zone. But nope.
In my book is a story about the Spanish Civil War that took place from 1936 to 1939. The link, if you wanna read it:
Francisco Franco became military dictator of the nation because his fascist pendejos won the war. And fascists tend to pal around with each other. Being fascist is how Spain got to sit out World War II; Hitler gave them a pass. I mean, Spain was kinda fucked up from three years of civil war so they didn’t have a lot to offer in terms of helping the Axis in the big ass killstravaganza.
Speaking of Hitler, Franco was of course a huge fan. And when Hitler took a train to Spain in October of 1940, as WWII raged, to ask for support, Franco said we can’t do much for ya Adolf but what we CAN do is change our time zone.
That map shows Germany way to the east of Spain, but Franco said fuck it time is just a bullshit human created concept anyway. The guy that was an hour late meeting us at our VRBO a few days ago to let us in while I was ready to literally shit my pants didn’t seem to care much about what time it was. Anyway, Franco jumped the time zone ahead an hour to be on the same time as his fascist fuckface friend.
And it’s never been changed back.
Franco was el presidente for life, until 1975. Democracy finally came to Spain in 1978, but they’re still on fascist time. I mean, Germany isn’t fascist anymore either but the reasons for the change are.
At least the time change helped Spain avoid the WWII bloodbath. Speaking of bloodbaths, we went to a Real Madrid game and check this shit out.
I’m not a futebol maniac but hearing 80,000 people lose their minds over every one of those five goals was a lot of fun.

I love your posts. I’m currently on a high speed train on the way to Madrid. Thanks for the education about the time zones, I didn’t know.
Makes me think of Arizona, somehow...
