Can I point out that the South Pole is higher than anywhere on the Australian mainland, although as it's part of the Australian Antarctic Territory, it's exactly the highest point of any Australian state or territory, assuming that there aren't any higher mountains in the area.

The US, of course, doesn't recognise the Australian Antarctic Territory, because they weren't the first to discover and map it. Not surprising, really.
