Important Information about Number 2
Not the excremental kind, although that depends on your perspective
Two days ago I made the big announcement about selling republishing rights of both volumes of On This Day in History Sh!t Went Down to Bantam. This is the post on Facebook that got 29,000 likes and 3,600 comments. I didn’t even link my website in the post, but it caused a run on the self-published versions. Volume II jumped to #180 for ALL books on Amazon.com. There was a massive spike in sales for both hardcover and trade paper of Volume I as well, so that this happened for the history reference category:
I figured that a sales spike might happen, but nothing like that. The target date for the presale of the new version of Volume I is April 17, which is the three-year anniversary of when I got the idea for the column. We might hit that and might not. But don’t count on either volume being available after April 16.
On that note, I’ve already re-worked the shit out of V1 with the fine team at Bantam. It has a very cool layout and WAY MORE images and pull quotes n’ shit. It will be in a unique, meaning very cool, style of trade paper to keep the cost reasonable as well. The target publication date is October 22 of this year. And yes, there will finally be a professional audio version as well.
Now some important info about book “Number 2.”
The self-published version came out last September, but only in 7x10 hardcover. Yes, that was a financial decision and I know some people weren't happy with it. But it's a thing publishers do when they have a winning series, because they make more $$ off hardcovers.
Volume I had sold like a mother of fuckers, and so I made the decision to only release Volume II in more-expensive / more-money-for-me hardcover. The intention was that I would then release a less expensive 6X9 trade paper this June. Except that's not happening now, because big-ass book deal.
Anyway, it will be six months until the new version of Volume I is out, but it's likely to be about 18 months until there will be the new version of Volume II. I guess a lot of people realized that and decided to stop waiting for it in paperback and said fuck it I'll buy the V2 hardcover now. So if you want to do that because Mother's Day gift or some shit, get them at JamesFell.com/books.
And just FYI, the tone of the books isn't changing. Some expressed fear that the publisher was going to have me ease back on the profanity. Yeah, fuck that. Do you think I'd sell out and let a publisher do that? No fucking way.
Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to
Holy. Fuck.
Dude, I can't even express how happy this makes me, and I don't get fuckall from your sales, except for the actual book that I bought. This is just bonkers.
I still want to record your audio, but yeah, Wil Wheaton would be fuckin ridiculous and awesome.
Love this for you! You deserve it. Thanks for the History, and the laughs!
