I spent a lot of time on social media yesterday, and I believe I have some not terrible news.
After the 2016 election, I decided to stop predicting elections, because I did not see that shitnado of ass coming. And I’m trying not to stress too much about the next election because there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it. I’ll just have to roll with whatever happens and keep fighting.
But Saturday night was a big what the fuck moment. A friend texted me saying well shit Trump is definitely gonna win now, and then Sunday morning a family member texted saying the exact same thing.
Except I don’t think that’s the case. At least, I don’t think this assassination attempt will make any difference to his chances.
It has been a rough couple of weeks for those opposing alabaster autocracy. And it could still go sideways. But when the shooter was revealed to be young white male Republican and not a Black Lives Matter antifa Democrat, I think that made a pretty big difference. Who knows the motive? And I sure as shit don’t trust the FBI to be truthful after some of the shit they’ve pulled the last nine years, or, well, ever.
We could talk conspiracies until we’re bluer in the face than the blue Americans need to vote for. I’m going to stay away from that and instead discuss the vibe check I did yesterday. And that vibe was that this isn’t going to secure a win for Trump. At first, there were those proclaiming it was going to make him appear badass and lead to victory. Except that didn’t last. It quickly shifted.
The right-wing reaction was predictably disgusting, blaming antifa and Democrats and even Joe Biden himself. When all along it’s been them promoting violence. If Trump had a KFC-induced coronary, I think a lot of people would be thrilled, or at least relieved. But plenty of non-Trumpanzees were glad that he wasn’t seriously injured or killed. If he wins in November, it would be a catastrophe for America. But if he were to die via an assassin’s bullet, most realize that too would be a cat ass trophy. There is still a chance to pull America back from the brink. If Trump had died, I think those chances would have been equally dead. The violence would have been like nothing seen in generations.
Back to the vibe check. The right wingers predictably acted like assholes, and most everyone else was just disgusted. Disgusted with them, disgusted with the shooter, disgusted with Trump, disgusted with the entire shitshow. I don’t think anyone’s mind is getting changed over this. People aren’t going to forget about Project 2025. There is still a lot of time before the election to warn people of what a Trump victory means and communicate the successes of Biden’s first term.
And Biden predictably responded in his usual classy way like the true leader he is, while Trump went golfing and didn’t give a fuck about the family of the man who was killed.
I’m not an American, but I’m with Americans on the need to defeat the mango motherfucker. So I hope it’s not a stretch for this Canadian to say that “we” have been through a lot the last nine years. The vibe is that this is just more bullshit that has happened. It’s not a turning point, and it’s not even that surprising. It’s not going to change minds. The last nine years have been so totally fucking bugshit that we are all “Oh well shit that was crazy” followed by “Anyway …”
That’s the vibe I get.
Being that this is a paid subscriber post I apologize for breaking character. Because the above reads a lot more like a free post, doesn’t it? Usually, the paid stuff is more personal stories, so I’ll finish with one that is nevertheless related to what’s been happening recently.
