I am okay with either. I hate both getting up in the dark and going to bed when it's still light, and I'm going to get stuck with one of them no matter which way we go, but can we please just end this madness? "Springing forward" bucks me up for weeks afterward. The end of DST is not as bad, but it still gets me off kilter for at least a week. Madness, I say. MADNESS!
I'm with you, James. Everyone should stop fucking with the clocks twice a year. And we should do it now, while "Daylight Saving Time" is in effect (and thank you for spelling "Saving" without an "s" which is what fucking stupid people do). I, for one, would rather have that hour of daylight after work when I'm in the mood to do something fun outdoors. It doesn't matter if it's daylight or dark in the morning when I'm stumbling around, trying to get myself together for the day.
The argument I always heard was that parents didn't want their precious little darlings walking to school in the dark. That argument isn't worth shit, witness the half-mile-long lines of traffic in either direction as parental chauffeurs burn up fossil fuel waiting in line to deposit their little monsters on the schoolhouse doorstep, while yellow buses drive empty for miles in search of that handful of brats whose parents have the sense to utilize the mass transportation their taxes pay for.
Thank you BC for going it alone! This will be our last stupid time change. I'm OK with DST even though it was weird this morning, but this is the last time change in BC. Celebrate.
And didn’t have the technology yet to automatically change time, so I missed my connecting flight to Chicago because I thought I still had plenty of time left to get to the boarding gate.
The clusterfuck of DST only exists because our collective western 'cultures' are incapable of informally changing work hours for the slaves... sorry workers... to suit the actual daylight available.
I seriously suspect a BIG driver (from business, of course) is that just the IT coding challenge of allowing flexibility in time/pay-systems - each business can decide itself - has been a cost they want to shove onto a one-size-fits-all - ie the govt can do it.
Every time I hear a business person state their argument - it ALWAYS centres around time differences with their *preferred* market. So I call UTTER bs on any argument that it's actually 'for the people'. Just change your bloody work hours - and guess what - the early morning people will still fight the late night people over their preference. Just let people work when they want to.
I'm in Oregon too and I have no idea why we can't just do it. The decision was made several years ago (IIRC), why on earth do we need federal approval?
Agreed. Stop changing the clocks twice a year. I'd prefer DST but could live with either. In my case, mainly because I'm not smart enough to change the clock in my car. I currently drive around for half the year with the time wrong and just have to remember to add an hour!
I'm all for keeping the clocks where they are right now. As a former office worker, nothing was more depressing than driving to work when the sun was just starting to come up and leaving just as it was setting. Even now, the short days are depressing AF in the winter -- "extending" those daylight hours a bit sounds like a win-win-win to me.
I know BC just implemented Standard Time because they were tired of waiting for us. Thank you, NPR for informing me! Hopefully, at least the West will finally get with the program as we've been working on it for years.
I'm fortunate that I no longer have a job that dictates my morning schedule (that role is now played by my dog who wakes me up for a morning bio break and breakfast before going right back to sleep), so I don't feel strongly about one time scheme or the other. I am definitely in favor of stopping the twice-a-year clock changing madness though. There is plenty of evidence that the time changes have negative effects on health and safety with no real benefits.
My state voted to get rid of DST years ago, still hasn’t been approved by the U.S. Congress, so we’re being tortured by this nonsense twice a year. My sleep pattern messed up for days, and I swear my ESAs can read a digital clock for the time.
Wow, good for you! As if WA daylight hours aren’t already messed up enough. The first time I visited there was this one afternoon I couldn’t understand why I was sooooooo sleepy. Then I looked at the clock and it was 9:00 pm but was only looking close to dusk.
The stop the time change bill for WA was supposed to go into effect last year, but U.S. Congress has ignored it since the voters here passed it and Gov. Inslee signed it. Someday we'll match B.C. above and just stick to DST or whatever, instead of shifting times twice a year.. I hope.

For the record, I did not intend to say "bucks".
Jo, your spellcheck is a prude. 😈
I thought I had trained it better than that. We'll be having a little chat.
😂🫶🏼

Just pick one. I prefer standard time, but could live with either.

(she commented smugly) AZ doesn't do daylight savings time.
Yeah, I FAFO’d with that shit at Sky Harbor, back in the day when iPods existed
And didn’t have the technology yet to automatically change time, so I missed my connecting flight to Chicago because I thought I still had plenty of time left to get to the boarding gate.
I agree it is an outdated and archaic concept.
LMAO ~ I have been saying much the same thing for decades. With more swear words, if you can believe that.

Glad to read about BC. Hoping the USA west coast will follow suit. Apparently, we're waiting for federal approval, for some reason. (I'm in Oregon.)

OMG !! lamo ! when I got a new Saturn , I had to go to the manual to change it....

I agree that we need to get rid of this idiotic time game.

Apparently, BC implemented permanent Daylight Saving Time.
Oops, that's what I meant!
I often forget the different terms for time changes. Thank you.

#EndTheMadness
Which state is that?
Not speaking for Catherine, but Florida is one state that has done this.
WA.

I'd like to keep the extra hour in the evening and not go back at all.
