I’ve self-published two books titled On This Day in History Sh!t Went Down. They’re no longer for sale because of my republishing deal with Bantam Books. The New and Improved version of Volume I comes this October 10 (pre-order here) and the new V2 comes the following year.
But I am writing new shit, although not in an “on this day in history” format. You may have noticed a few hours ago I published a new piece titled “SH!T WENT DOWN: Harry Belafonte and the Freedom Summer Flight.”
That’s the inaugural column. All future history columns (no that’s not an oxymoron) I write will have the same format of “SH!T WENT DOWN: [subject under examination]”.
Other than that, there will be two key differences. First is that the column will not be constrained by needing to be built around a specific date. Second is that these pieces are longer. The typical “on this day” post of mine was about 450 words. These new pieces will run about 700-900 words.
The new SH!T WENT DOWN pieces will be published approximately whenever I fucking feel like it.
Will these columns become a new book? I cannot answer that question right now, but please know that I am working on a new book and only my wife, my agent, and a couple of close author friends know what it’s about.
But in the mean time, please don’t forget to pre-order ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY SH!T WENT DOWN.
I was going to buy tge new printing for my good friend for Christmas. Now I found out that her cancer is back. I would like to pay fir a subscription here instead, to give her a bit of ongoing humor. How do I do that?
Yeah, never apologize for 3 emails in one day. You're sharing your thoughts, for better or worse, and that's cool. Also think your new column is kick-ass! Thanks James!
